Lindsey’s Story

Lindsey shares why her family chose to call the The River District home and about her newest journey as a blogger.

Tell us about yourself, your family, and where you’re from.

Originally from Iowa, I moved to Fort Worth 10 years ago. Although from a smaller city, to me, Fort Worth is the biggest small town I’ve ever lived in. I met my husband, David, who was born and raised in this area through a mutual friend seven years ago. We’ve now been married three years and have a one year old daughter, Evan. We live with our sweet pup, Spencer, a Great Pyrenees, who loves long walks on the trail! I enjoy spending time with family and friends, writing for my blog, and enjoying all the fun things there are to do in Fort Worth.

When did you first hear about The River District? Why and when did you move here?

David and I have always been on the lookout for up and coming areas in Fort Worth-as realtors, it’s our job! So we heard about the potential development early on. After a visit to an open house, we loved the area, but weren’t quite ready to leave our townhome near 7th Street. Then after Evan was born, we knew it was time for more space and a quieter, family-focused neighborhood. I was out previewing a home for a client in River Heights, when I decided to walk through a few other homes being built. When I walked through what is now our home, I fell in love. A month later, a contract was signed, and we moved three months after that. Having lived here a year now, we know we made the right choice. We absolutely love the tight-knit community, having neighbors who have become friends, many playmates for our daughter, and overall a beautiful place to call home.

What do you do for a living?

My most important job is that of mom to Evan! However, I also wear many other hats. I’m a realtor, blogger, and business owner. My husband, a full-time pilot and realtor, recently started his own brokerage, Aviator Realty, and I am an agent with him. I also have a fashion and lifestyle blog, A Pilot’s Wife. Occasionally, I also do freelance website design and marketing. Needless to say, there isn’t a lot of downtime in this house!

Tell us a little more about “A Pilot’s Wife” and the story behind the name.

A Pilot’s Wife started as an idea long before I became an actual pilot’s wife! In 2014, I was encouraged my a friend and fellow blogger to start my own blog. After she invited me to a blogger brunch, I decided there was no better time to get started. I kept up with the blog for about a year, but my full-time job was demanding much of my time and I couldn’t keep up with both. After a bit of a hiatus, I jumped back in just before getting pregnant and then became consistent with my content again in July of 2018.

David is a commercial airline pilot and so that’s where the name came from. I think we thought it up one day during a brainstorm (we were only engaged at the time!), but clearly I would be A Pilot’s Wife soon enough. Although the blog rarely focuses on pilot wife life, it’s sprinkled in occasionally. I mostly focus on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle topics, like motherhood and travel. At one point on my blogging journey, I even created my own line of aviation-related graphic tees for women that accompanied the blog.

Why did you decide to start a fashion and lifestyle blog?

I’ve always loved fashion. I worked in retail growing up and enjoyed helping people style looks for different occasions. Even now, friends are always calling or texting asking me what they should wear to certain events or how to best organize their pantry, style bookshelves, etc. I love sharing my ideas, tips and tricks, and inspiration with others through my blog.

What do you love most about being a fashion and lifestyle blogger? What’s the most challenging part about it?

What I love most is helping others through my content, and of course playing dress up is fun! Nothing makes me love what I do more than getting messages from followers telling me they can relate, have similar struggles, or that a piece of my content helped them in some way. That makes all the effort I put into creating content worth it.

The most challenging thing is finding time. Blogging is no cake walk. It takes hours and sometimes days to create a single post, and you must always be creating fresh new content. There are photo shoots, events, and so much more that goes into growing your blog. Don’t even get me started on Instagram. It can be a lot of pressure sometimes to keep up!

What motivates you to blog?

This is an interesting question because often times even I wonder! However, it’s something I really enjoy. It’s an outlet for my creative side and keeps the pre-mom side of me alive. I feel it’s so important to not get lost in motherhood and remember to also nurture and explore the things that fulfill you outside of being a mom.

How do you describe your personal style? What are your inspirations?

It’s funny, I actually just wrote about this on the blog last week. I have found over the last year as a new mom that my style has definitely changed. I have been drawn to more classic styles and neutral colors. A lot of closet staples that I can mix and match and create many different looks with. Adding these types of pieces (think camel colored coat, striped tee, a great pair of jeans, and white tennis shoes) help me to create great looking outfits in very little time. Casual can be chic if done right. You can read my post about the winter pieces I’m loving and wearing all the time here!

In terms of my inspirations, I have so many! But mostly, I get inspired by browsing street style photos on Pinterest. It helps to spark ideas of new looks I create with things already in my closet.

If someone wants to follow your blog, how would they go about doing that?

There area few ways! First, you can go to my website, APilotsWife.com. You can sign up for my newsletter to always get new content sent directly to your inbox. You can also follow me on social media. I’m on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest!
